We simply cannot get enough smoothies in the summer. {now we’re addicted to smoothies  made with almond milk} When it’s HOT outside, chewing seems to be way too much work, so breakfast and lunch is pretty much anything we can blend up over ice and enjoy in the shade.

Have I mentioned how much I am NOT a hot weather fan?

For me the problem with smoothies is the sugar crash an hour or so later. A lot of smoothies have yogurt in them to fix that problem, but I’m really not a big fan. Not sure why; I love smoothies, and I love yogurt, I even love my yogurt with fruit, but when you mix them a ll together I just don’t like it.

The other day after I dropped Charlie off at work {yes my kiddo has a job} I stopped into Safeway which was on my way home. I noticed that Silk Almond Milk had a few new blends {I’m a  dairy fan when it comes to cheese and yogurt, but I totally prefer the taste of almond milk for my cereal, and coconut milk for my coffee} When I saw the Almond Milk with Protein and Fiber, my smoothie dilemma was instantly solved.

And with the 4th of July just a few weeks away, I went FESTIVE

These are a bit more time consuming than a traditional smoothie {each layer needs to firm up in the freezer before adding the next}  but how can you not LOVE the colored layers? If you are short on time, each flavor is delicious on it’s own.

I used both new blends in this smoothie {the almond milk with fiber and protein for the berry layers, and the almond coconut blend for the banana layer} but that was just my personal preference, I love the coconut banana combo.

Whichever blend you choose, you benefit from the  protein in the almond milk, and you get a delicious smoothie just perfect for  HOT summer days.

Red White and Blue {almond milk blends} Smoothie

Ingredients

  • For the red layer -
  • 1 cup of Silk Almond Milk with Fiber and Protein
  • 1/2 banana
  • 1 cup of frozen raspberries
  • For the White Layer
  • 1 Cup of Silk Almond Coconut Blend
  • 1 banana
  • For the Blue Layer-
  • 1 cup of Silk Almond Milk with Fiber and Protein
  • 1/2 banana
  • 1 cup of frozen blueberries

Instructions

  • make each layer separately
  • pour milk
  • add banana
  • and frozen fruit
  • blend
  • pour into glass and freeze for 30 minutes
  • repeat for each layer
