Baked Tortilla Bowls

I may have mentioned
a few hundred times
that I have a fussy eater.

Fussy is being polite.

Mexican night is the one night I know I will not get any complaints.

Our family has been having “Mexican Mondays” or “Taco Tuesdays”
for years
The day may change because of after school activities,  but the meal pretty much remains the same…
some form of tacos or burritos with an enchilada thrown in there occasionally.

I wanted to change things up a bit this week, and thought since we are enjoying warmer temperatures, taco salads would be a nice alternative.

Now, I will admit, we have been know to top chips with our fixings and called that a salad.
Not exactly nutritious.

I could bake a tortilla and then top it, but that would basically be a tostada.

The bowl is the fun.
So…to the internet I went.

What did we do in the “old” days
when we would have to read actual books to find our information

a jar or glass is the answer

I chose a canning jar

flip it over
rub your tortillas with just a little olive oil
press over the glass
bake @350 for about 8 minutes

presto
baked tortilla bowls
ready to be filled
any way the fussy one likes:)

Enjoy!

  1. Very healthy. Can you believe there’s an actual gadget on tv that does this? Some people will waste their money on anything.

  2. I never would’ve thought to use a jar. Thats such a great idea. One of my hubby’s favorite things to eat is taco salad. I’ll have to make this for him. Thanks for sharing!

  3. Love it. So easy.

  4. LOL! I had to laugh at your first commenter:-) I am one of those people. I adore kitchen gadgets, so when I saw the set of 4 pans for $10 at Walmart I bought it!!! I like using the metal pans over the glass jars so much better, and they stay in a uniform shape!!! We love having taco salads in the bowls too! Such a yummy dinner!!!

  5. I am not a fussy eater, but I do love Mexican food and salads. So this recipe is perfect for me. Thanks for sharing and I love your blog. I am following now and would love for you to follow back.

  6. look so delicious and surely it’s healthy too. Thanks for sharing this. I’m going at kitchen to make this one for me ..

  7. My husband was just mentioning last night that he wanted to purchase the gadgets on TV for making tortilla bowls. I bulked because I am not a lover of anything that’s only for one use. Thank you for this great tip! Now he can have his tortilla bowls without the additional gadget cluttering the kitchen even more. :-) Tammy – http://www.yoursandmineareours.wordpress.com
